Swarna Bindu Prashana is a widely utilized herbo-metallic medicinal formulation in Ayurvedic pediatrics, incorporates essential elements like swarna prashan (gold nanoparticle), gou ghrita (cow ghee), madhu (honey), and other medhya dravyas (substances that promote intellectual enhancement and memory).
In Ayurveda, the unique practice of swarna prashana involves administering gold particles to children. "Swarna" refers to gold, while "prashana" indicates the act of consuming or ingesting. Thus, swarna prashana is the controlled ingestion of gold in prescribed doses. Gold, categorized as one of the seven pure metals, holds significance in preventive and curative applications. Children who undergo swarna prashana experience benefits such as improved intellectual abilities, enhanced digestion and metabolism, increased physical strength, boosted immunity, better fertility, and an extended lifespan.
Swarna Bindu Prashana (SBP) can be administered to children from day 1 up to 5 years of age. It proves to be particularly advantageous for children with compromised immunity, low intellectual capacity, diminished memory power, and those experiencing dyslexia. However, it is contraindicated for children suffering from conditions such as fever, dysentery, indigestion, and similar ailments.
Swarna Bindu Prashana (SBP) is known for enhancing immunity, improving memory, intelligence, appetite, and skin health. According to Kashyapa Samhita, SBP contributes to the enhancement of medha (intellect), bala (strength), agni (digestive fire), aayu (lifespan), varnya (complexion), pavitra (purification), and manglyakarak (auspiciousness). It is therapeutically used for ghraha badha (warding off malefic influences) and vrushya (aphrodisiac) purposes.
The ancient Ayurvedic tradition of Swarna Bindu Prashana is garnering increasing recognition for its extraordinary ability to boost the health and well-being of children. As we delve into the significance of Suvarna Prashana, let's explore its diverse aspects, advantages, and the forthcoming dates for 2024.
Swarna prashana preparations involves the encapsulation of gold particles with honey, ghee, and herbs, fostering the creation of gold particles with varying sizes, shapes, charges, and compositions. This distinctive structure of gold particles in swarna prashana holds the potential to trigger non-specific immunity by activating both cellular and humoral immune responses. Given the natural or induced mutations in pathogens, a human system equipped with non-specific immunity is poised to defend against diverse pathogens and inflammatory substances. The interaction of gold nanoparticles with target cells is apparent in their influence on immunological responses and cytotoxicity.
In the future, as a preventative measure against pandemic scenarios like Covid, the ancient immunization method known as Swarna Bindu Prashana (SBP) may play a pivotal role in developing resistance against a spectrum of viral diseases. SBP not only has the potential to mitigate the severity of an existing disease but also confers resistance to the offspring of the next generation. The objective of this mini-review is to emphasize the significance of SBP, including its role, preparations, key features, mode of administration, and plausible mechanisms in influencing both cellular and humoral immunity.
The administration of swarna bhasma in very low doses over a defined period is known to enhance both memory power and immunity. Swarna prashana is easily absorbable in its oxide form. Despite its simplicity, there are uncertainties surrounding the mixing and absorption of swarna bhasma. The absorption of crude ashudha swarna prompts discussion about its mechanism. In this scenario, swarna may remain unabsorbed in the body, potentially serving as an incompatible substance or binding material, playing a substantial role in immune system stimulation.
Gold has already demonstrated its immune-modulatory effects, primarily due to its antibacterial action against various organisms. However, when combined with specific varieties of honey and clarified butter, its action extends to stimulating immune cells in the body. The recommended method of administration is oral, preferably on an empty stomach in the early morning. This practice is suitable for individuals from birth up to the age of 16, with a dosage of two drops up to 6 months and four drops thereafter, administered alongside clarified butter and honey. The regimen can be followed daily for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 180 days, or alternatively, it can be administered every pushya nakshatra (every 28 days) for a minimum of 30 doses.
Swarna bhasma in SBP provides a moisturizing and unctuous effect on the body, with its madhura (sweet) quality acting as a rejuvenating tonic. SBP is known to address conditions like vishamjwara (malarial fever), antra jwara (enteric fever), weakness, etc., through detoxification. Scientifically, swarna bhasma has been proven to possess antioxidant, antidepressant, anti-cancerous, antibacterial, and anti-rheumatoid properties, functioning as a nerve stimulant.
Clinical tests have demonstrated that SBP is free from toxicity, as the ingredients used in its preparation undergo non-toxic certification.
Babies may occasionally vomit due to the smell and different taste of the medicine; however, no other side effects have been reported.
